Apr 27, 2012 Copper is a hideously abrasive material that can "grab" tools and cause horrific disasters in the shop. I recommend carbide cutters, preferably coated ones. Coolant is a must. Data Flute has a PCD coated carbide specifically for copper. High Speed Steel tools "might" make it through, but they'll be wiped out after one or two parts.

The better the operator, the better the resulting accuracy. If you have a sherline mill, adjust it as this instructable shows, and see how accurate you can get! You're right, the mill cannot push against hard materials and get that accuracy, but for brass, copper or soft materials, it can be done! Happy making:)
